Off-season workouts are closed to the media, but it is clear that an emphasis has been placed on building strength on the line.
"They’ve worked harder than any line group we’ve had in here," Brodie Croyle told BamaMag.com Monday. "They work out at 4:30 (p.m.) and do a completely different lift than we do. It's a lot of bulk, mass building and stuff. I’m not worried at all about being behind them.”
Croyle, who measured in at 6-2 1/2, 206 pounds at Bama's junior pro day on April 28, also said the line for the coming season was, "probably faster than the group we had."
Croyle has been a major part in keeping the offense moving forward since the conclusion of spring ball. In addition to the four-day-a-week workouts with strength and conditioning coach Kent Johnston, the skill players have been conducting voluntary pass skeletion (pass skel) drills and watching game film since returning from spring break.
“It's probably the best we’ve had. We haven’t had a single receiver miss a pass skel yet," he said. "The only ones who miss are on defense - the guys that missed in spring because they had class. Those receivers are really starting to come on.”
Croyle said that when the receivers ran the 40-yard dash recently, only Zeke Knight (at 6-4, 230 pounds) exceeded the 4.5 mark, and he ran just above a 4.5.
Spring semester classes ended at The University last week and Croyle said everyone would take a break this week before resuming next week.
As for his own health, Croyle said, “I’m good. My shoulder hasn’t bothered me in two years. My knee is completely healed now and I”ve got all the trust back in it. I can run on it, plant.”
