Alabama's recruiting class is filling up fast. With two new commitments, only a few slots remain in this year's class. The Tide is hoping to sign at least one more running back. Several top recruits are naming Alabama as their favorite, therefore it could come down to who commits first. Though he was not in Tuscaloosa this past weekend,
Mikell Simpson
of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, still has the Tide at the top of his list.
"It's still pretty much dead even between
Alabama
and
Virginia
. Neither one is above the other, right now. Coach
Sparky Woods
(Alabama) called my house, this past Sunday night, and spoke with my dad. He was basically saying, they still want me. He wanted to know what I plan to do," said
Mikell Simpson
.
The four star running back does have a time frame for his decision.
"This weekend, after I take my visit to
Florida
, I will sit down with my parents and decide where I am going. I will let the coaches know next weekend, but I will not announce publicly until signing day."
"I really didn't think I would be going down to Florida. A coach from Florida called me last Thursday, and said they were sending someone up the next morning. I had a good conversation for about an hour, with one of the Florida coaches, that Friday morning. He seemed very excited about me. He said Coach Meyer wanted me to come down there. I want to go and see what it is like," Simpson added.
Simpson is very familiar with the Florida Gators.
"It's basically the last opportunity for me to go visit a place, before I make my decision. I know they are in one of the top conferences in the country. I like the offense Coach Meyer is going to bring to Florida. I want to meet with all the coaches. Florida speaks for itself. It has been one of the top programs in the country for the last several years."
After suffering a season ending injury, Simpson is almost fully recovered.
"The knee is doing great. I have been working out and running every day. I am back up to 195. I want to get to around 205 before I get to college. I was down to about 175, a few months ago after I got hurt. I have been working out a lot and eating about four meals a day. I will run outdoor track this year. We start at the end of March," said Simpson.
