Bama Commits Visited Too

Posted Jan 10, 2005

The main focus of Alabama recruiting is centered with players that have not verbally committed. But the Alabama coaching staff was also thrilled to have many of their top commitments in Tuscaloosa for their official visits.

Several Alabama commits were in town this weekend for their official visits, and all were very impressed.

Cole Harvey had a lot to say about his visit to Alabama.

"It went really good. It was just awesome. I was really impressed. Everything was great,” Harvey said. “They fed us good, the facilities and the campus were just awesome. I talked with Scott Deaton and Ali Sharrief. I think I am going to go back next weekend. I think Fred (Rouse) had a great time. He loved going for the game during in the season. He had a lot of fun this weekend. I am not sure what he plans to do, but I hope we can get him."

Alabama commit Chris Keys loved his visit to Tuscaloosa. Keys, who was committed to LSU before the departure of departed Coach Nick Saban, recently said he would not take a visit to LSU, but a visit to Baton Rouge is still not out of the question.

"The visit went real good,” Keys said. “I got to see the rest of the campus. My player host was Roman Harper. I could tell he is a great leader. He is a true team player. I am still not sure if I am going to visit LSU or not. I have until January 28. I am Bama all the way after my visit this weekend."

After making his commitment switch from Auburn, Ali Sharrief had a great visit to his future home.

"I had a great time,” he said. “It went really good. We hung out with all the players. We had a lot of fun. We chilled, and talked with the coaches a lot. It was a great visit."

Fort Walton Beach star running back Glen Coffee made the trek to Tuscaloosa as well.

"I met a lot of the players and several of the other commitments,” Coffee said. “I hung out with Ali Sharrief a good bit. He is a good guy. My player host was DJ Hall. We had a great time. I think I am going to go to the spring game. I know I will be in Tuscaloosa in July."

Alabama's only committed tight end, Charles Hoke, was in Tuscaloosa for his official visit. Hoke is a standout on the hardwood and focused on his senior basketball season.

“My player host was Trent Davidson,” Hoke said. “He showed me a good time. I think he is going to help me out a lot next year. I really enjoyed hanging out with my future teammates. I am playing basketball right now, and we are doing pretty good. I think I will be going down to Tuscaloosa for both summer sessions."

Oak Mountain offensive lineman, Scott Deaton, made his presence in Tuscaloosa as well.

"It was really good,” Deaton said. “I hung out with Cory Reamer, Cole Harvey, and Charles Hoke. Cole ( and I hung out most of the time. We really hit it off. I also met Fred Rouse and Roy Upchurch. Chris Capps was my player host. We hung out with Kyle Tatum and JB Closner. They were all really good people and it already felt like we were a family. I don't know yet when I will be able to go down to Tuscaloosa. I am lifting and running everyday. I am 6-5, 280, right now. I am going to try and get up to 290 before the fall."

Class 6A State Championship MVP, Cory Reamer, was in Tuscaloosa, and enjoyed hanging out with several of his future teammates.

"We had a good time. There were a bunch of good recruits down there,” Reamer said. “We all had fun. Matt Miller was my player host. We had a great time together. We spent about an hour together on Friday night. I wanted to go out, but we had curfew.

“I knew Charles Hoke, Cole Harvey, and Scott Deaton. We all hung out for the most part. I met with Chris Rogers, Jimmy Johns, and Chris Keys. I talked Ali Sharrief and his dad for a while. They were both great. I enjoyed talking to them.

“I talked to players that were already there like DeMeco Ryans, Aaron Johns, Marcus Carter and Aaron McDaniel. I went out with Spencer (Pennington) and John Parker (Wilson) on Saturday night. I got to meet everyone, and got a really good feel for the team."
