"I will be playing for the University of Alabama this fall. I was offered a scholarship and I made my commitment yesterday," said Dukes.
Dukes had a slew of offers, but Alabama was the only school wanting him right now.
"Memphis, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Louisville, Florida, and several other SEC schools had offered. They did not want me until December. Alabama wanted me now. That is why I chose Alabama. I will move there on Sunday."
Dukes was able to meet with the Alabama coaching staff yesterday.
"I met them all yesterday. All of them treated me real nice. Coach Shula said that he really liked me. The defensive backs coach told me, if I came in and showed him the same things he saw from tape, I would be able to work myself into the starting rotation," Dukes added.
Dukes believes he will be able to make an immediate impact when he arrives on campus.
" I think I will make an impact. I feel like I will bring a lot of leadership to the team."
Chris Turner ('04 signee)also came from Northwest Mississippi Community College. Dukes is excited about playing with Turner again.
"Chris has talked to me a lot about coming to Alabama. It will be great to play with him. It will be like normal though, for us to play together."
Dukes believes the Tide will have a successful year and believes that Alabama is back in business for a championship run.
"I think we are going to have a real good team this year. I was down at work-outs yesterday. Everyone seemed like they were ready to play. We are going to have a good offensive line and a great defense. I think we have a good enough team to win a championship this year. We have a lot of talent," said Dukes.
Last season, Dukes had seventy-six tackles, four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, and two fumble recoveries.
While playing for Northwest, Dukes earned All-American honors and was named as a Super Sophomore. Dukes is from LaFayette High School in Oxford, Mississippi. Dukes did not sign a scholarship out of high school.
