Photo report: Better but not good enough
(Above left) Shaud Williams sprints for a touchdown. For the second year in a row, Williams broke clear of the line of scrimmage and outraced the Arkansas secondary for an 80-yard touchdown run. (Barry Fikes photo) Brodie Croyle looks downfield to pass. After re-injuring a previously separated left shoulder, Croyle missed the final minutes of the first half. But the sophomore returned in the second half to lead Alabama to three straight touchdowns, including a 71-yard touchdown pass to Dre Fulgham. Croyle finished with 204 yards passing, three touchdown passes and one interception. (Barry Fikes photo) Triandos Luke spins around after catching a 16-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Luke finished with six receptions for 60 yards. (Barry Fikes photo) True freshmen defenders Terrence Jones (#55) and Dominic Lee (#96) close in on the Arkansas ball carrier. For the second straight week Jones saw significant action at linebacker. Lee played in his first college game. (Barry Fikes photo) Tide Head Coach Mike Shula yells instructions on the sideline. After the game he praised his team's effort, but also pointedly acknowledged that several times the squad lost its poise. Shula went on to say that the coaches would consider whether or not lineup changes might be in order. (Barry Fikes photo) Reserve quarterback Spencer Pennington sprints out looking to pass. When Croyle went down with an injured shoulder, Pennington came into the game cold off the bench and helped the Tide to a field goal which tied the game at halftime. (Barry Fikes photo) Senior receiver Dre Fulgham sprints to the endzone. On Bama's first possession of the second half, facing a third and one at its own 29 yardline, Shula called for a middle pass to Fulgham which went for 71 yards and the score. Fulgham finished the game with two catches for 83 yards with both going for touchdowns. (Barry Fikes photo) Nautyn McKay-Loescher (#90) and Demeco Ryans (#35) tackle Matt Jones, forcing a fumble in the process. In the game the Tide broke its turnover drought, recovering a fumble and taking three interceptions. (Barry Fikes photo) Anthony Madison runs with the football following his interception. On a jump ball situation, Madison came away with the interception, returning it 29 yards. He was also credited with two tackles in the game. (Barry Fikes photo) Shaud Williams dives for a loose ball. Gaining 135 yards and scoring once, statistically it was a good day for Williams. But afterwards he called the loss one of the toughest he had ever experienced. (Barry Fikes photo)
