Four commits in 40 minutes

Alabama had a not-so-explosive spring game on Saturday by most accounts, but the recruiting ripple soon after sent shockwaves through college football as four Scout 300 prospects gave their verbal commitment to Nick Saban and company.

This past week has been a good one for Nick Saban. The longtime Alabama coach and elite recruiter not only helped the program closeout spring football on Saturday afternoon with a big A-Day Game turnout, but he landed a trio of Scout 100 defensive backs in the process.

Minutes later, four-star linebacker Leo Lewis joined the commit party. Each prospect was in town for the game, and waited until after to provide the news.

Seemingly only minutes apart, the Crimson Tide had one of the biggest nights in recent recruiting history by even their own standards. Four top-10 defensive prospects at their respective positions each committed to the program within the same class.

Joining Lewis and Durante were Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch teammates and best friends Shawn Burgess-Becker and Calvin Ridley, along with New Jersey cornerback standout Minkah Fitzpatrick. Each of the four prospects are currently rated four stars by Scout.com.

Fitzpatrick

Burgess-Becker and Ridley announced the news via Twitter, while Lewis and Fitzpatrick were more private at the time of their declarations.

Lewis nearly committed while on a previous visit to Alabama this spring, but was talked out of it by those close to him. After Saturday, however, he couldn't hold back.

Burgess-Becker had the Crimson Tide as his public leaders entering Saturday's visit to Tuscaloosa, but pulling the trigger wasn't discussed much. But several days into the trip and shortly after giving Saban the news, he told BamaMag that it was about the feeling on campus.

"I'm just more comfortable here," he said.
