The junior was committed to Kentucky from November until this past weekend, as he re-accessed his recruitment an how he's added considerable verbal scholarship offers since his initial pledge. In the meantime, he spent Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's second spring football scrimmage.
On Monday evening, Custis felt that Alabama was the school for him.
"I de-committed from Kentucky on Sunday morning, visited (Alabama) and was thinking about things and then I committed to Alabama today," he said. "It's nothing against Kentucky, I like the staff, it's a good school, but I feel great about Alabama."
At 6-foot, 180 pounds, Custis is currently tabbed as the No. 48 cornerback prospect in the country on Scout.com. He was named defensive back MVP of the Atlanta MVP Camp the weekend before the Alabama trip.
"I think Coach [Nick] Saban kind of knew that I was going to commit to Alabama before the visit ended Saturday," he said. "I did not commit before I left, but I gave Coach Saban a call today and made my commitment to Alabama official.
"It was pretty tough to give Kentucky the news because I have a great relationship with so many coaches there. I'm really thankful for how Kentucky recruited me."
The weekend trip wasn't Custis' initial impression of Tuscaloosa, but it was geared towards his family's view of the program.
"I kind of knew before the visit that I was going to commit to Alabama. I just wanted to take my family over there and after the visit me and my family felt Alabama is the best school for me. Coach Saban is a great coach, it's a great atmosphere at Alabama and they are constantly putting guys at my position into the NFL.
"I want to be the best that I can be, so to be the best, you have to compete against the best, play with the best and play against the best - and you get all that at Alabama."
Alabama now has 10 prospects committed within the class of 2015, and five on each side of the football. Custis' commitment is being accepted primarily as a cornerback, but safety isn't being ruled out by either side at this time.
