Ledbetter on mom: 'She's fully on board'
It's never been a secret in the college football recruiting world that mother, while she may not neccessarily know best between programs, will certainly have an input and a big impact on several commitments in each cycle. Some mothers are more dramatic than others, while most take in the process as the recrut does, one school at a time. For Jonathan Ledbetter, his mother has been by his side for most of it, except the biggest milestone in his recruitment to this point. His late January commitment to the University of Alabama. The four-star defenisve tackle out of Tucker (Ga.) High was on an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa with fellow Alabama-bound teammate Elisha Shaw, and he gave his word to Nick Saban's staff before heading back to the Atlanta area. At 6-foot-4, 271 pounds, Ledbetter has become a big-time commodity in the SEC and ACC, sporting nearly every scholarship offer in each conference. Not many expected him to end things as early as he did, including mom, but she got the chance to see part of the reason he selected the Crimson Tide over the weekend. The two spent time in Tuscaloosa on Saturday for spring practice, and stayed into Sunday for the full Alabama experience. It should be considered a success for the coaching staff, based on the top junior's feelings after returning home. "It was great, I was glad my mom got to see the school and meet all the staff," Ledbetter said. "I can tell she's fully on board with my decision." Mom's first time on campus was similar to that of a football prospects' based on what was presented. "They just talked about the whole program and gave her a tour of the academic buildings," he said. Even though one of Georgia's best spent the majority of time with fellow 2015 Peach State pledge Mekhi Brown, Shaw, as well as several current players, the trip was all about his mother's first impression. "That was the whole purprose of the trip," Ledbetter said. Scout.com currently pegs the junior as the No. 12 defensive tackle talent in the class of 2015.
