Women's Golf Star Curtis Cup Choice
The Curtis Cup Match is a biennial international women's amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland. Six-time USGA champion and two-time USA Curtis Cup Team member Ellen Port will serve as captain of the USA Team for the 38th Match.
"It is such an honor to be selected to play for your country," Talley said. "I could not be more blessed to be part of this Curtis Cup team with such a tremendous group of golfers. I want to thank the USGA and everyone that has supported me throughout my career – my parents and family, coaches, teammates and The University of Alabama."
The 2014 Curtis Cup will be played at the St. Louis Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., on June 6-8. Talley will be joined by Southern California's Kyung Kim, UCLA's Alison Lee, UCLA's Erynne Lee, Mississippi State's Ally McDonald, Southern California's Annie Park, Clemson's Ashlan Ramsey and Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse.
Talley won the 2013 United States Amateur and has competed in U.S. Opens. She was a second-team All-American as a true freshman at Alabama and was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year. Talley also captured the 2013 PING/ASU Invitational and was named a 2013 All-American Scholar-Athlete.
"I am so proud of these players and excited for what is ahead for this team," said Port, a St. Louis native. "Representing your country in the Curtis Cup Match is one of the highest honors a female amateur player can receive, and I know these women are more than up to the task. We are all looking forward to June and the opportunities that are ahead of us."
The Curtis Cup Match consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. The USA Team has won seven of the last eight Matches and leads the series, 27-7-3. Alabama senior Stephanie Meadow led the GB&I team to its first win in eight tries in Nairn, Scotland, in 2012.
Talley is the fourth Alabama player to be selected to compete in the Curtis Cup and the third American. Martha Lang was the first Alabama player selected, playing in 1992 and serving as captain in 1996. Brooke Pancake was selected to the American squad in 2012 with Meadow playing for the GB&I team.
