'That's a huge accomplishment'

Alabama has been diligent with its defensive offers to in-state prospects in the class of 2015, but Anfernee Jennings learned of his from Nick Saban himself while in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

Alabama offered several prospects verbal scholarships at its big junior day on Saturday, but only one of them plays high school football within the state borders.

Anfernee Jennings.

The 2015 three-star defensive end out of Dadeville (Ala.) High has been high on the Crimson Tide for some time, and now he can add them to his growing offer list.

"Yes sir, they did offer," he said. "I feel great about it. That's a huge accomplishment."

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder learned of the news early in the visit, in between campus tours, a look at Bryant-Denney Stadium and trying on jerseys in the locker room.

"I talked with Coach [Nick] Saban," Jennings said. "He likes me and I've liked him."

The latter part of the junior's quote stands true for more than one coach on staff, as he told Scout similar in late November, after helping his squad end the season for Alabama signee Ronnie  Clark and Calera (Ala.) High in the Class 4A playoffs.

"I talk to Coach Kirby Smart," Jennings said. "He's a great man, I talk to him a few times. I would love to play for him, he makes me feel like I'm at home whenever I'm there."

Admittedly sometimes a band-wagon fan, Jennings also said that he really likes programs that can simply win. The Crimson Tide offer could accelerate the recruiting process for him to a point, though a verbal commitment was not made on Saturday.
