Georgia's coaches don't know yet what they want to do with Darius Slayton if they get him - they…
Four-star: Tide offer 'does stand out'
Already boasting considerable SEC and ACC offers entering the weekend, Darius Slayton has been one of the hottest juniors in the state of Georgia. The four-star defensive back out of Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian School crossed over the one-dozen offer mark on Friday, with arguably his biggest one yet, as Alabama joined the race for his signature. "I feel good man, I always feel good after an offer," he said. "My head coach called me and told me to give Coach [Kirby] Smart a call, and Coach Smart offered me. "It was very surprising." Georgia, Florida, Auburn, as well as several others, had already extended a verbal offer the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder's way. But the Crimson Tide extension holds a certain amount of weight compared to many others on the list. "I mean, they are the best team in the nation, so I was excited," Slayton said. "I'd say it's the biggest (offer), team-wise, but for me personally, it does stand out a little bit. "They are the best team in the nation, so you have to give them their respect." Smart, who recruits the Peach State for Alabama and will also coach the secondary in addition to his defensive coordinator duties in 2014, wants to get the coveted cornerback on campus at some point considering he's never set foot in Tuscaloosa. "He said he likes my size, athleticism and ball skills," Slayton said. "He said he wanted me to get down there sometime this year. "I am not sure when, right now." What may help out the Crimson Tide or other new programs in pursuit of the top junior, is that he isn't anywhere close to winding things down within his recruitment despite more than a dozen solid scholarship offers. "I'm probably not going to commit until next year," he said. Scout.com currently pegs Slayton as the nation's No. 30 cornerback prospect in the class of 2015.
