Smith commits to Saban

Ty Smith once played tight end in the SEC at the University of Georgia, and after a stop at Georgia Military College, he's back in the league after committing to Alabama on Monday evening.

Ty Smith made the call on Monday evening, just a day or so after returning from an official visit to Louisville, to pledge to Alabama.

The three-star tight end, who was ranked among the nation's top 20 tight ends in the class of 2012 and earned a new three-star ranking from, ended his recruitment after four official visits late in the process.

Alabama adds its No. 26 commitment in Smith, the only tight end in the class and second junior college prospect on the 2014 commitment list , who has bulked up to 6-foot-3, 245 pounds. The sophomore, who has three seasons to play two at Alabama, was dismissed from Georgia last spring after he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge in April for filing a false report of a crime. He transferred to Georgia Military College soon after, and helped the program to a junior college national title game appearance.
