Mosley, Mandell Award Semifinalists

The top-ranked Alabama football team had two more players named as semifinalists for national awards on Friday as the Rotary Lombardi Award selected C.J. Mosley and the Ray Guy Award tabbed Cody Mandell.

C.J. Mosley, from Mobile, is the leader of Alabama's vaunted defense that ranks first nationally in scoring defense (9.8 ppg), second in first down defense, fifth in total defense, seventh in rushing defense and eighth in pass and pass efficiency defense.

Mosley is one of 12 semifinalists that includes four players from the Southeastern Conference for the Lombardi Award, which is given to the nation's top interior linemen (offense or defense). He leads the team with 59 tackles while recording 5.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups and four quarterback hurries. He is a seven-time Alabama Defensive Player of the Week.

Cody Mandell, from Lafayette, La., is the Crimson Tide's first Ray Guy Award semifinalist in the Nick Saban era. He is one of 10 semifinalists in 2013 and is averaging school-record 46.4 yards per punt on 27 attempts. Mandell has landed 10 of those punts inside the 10-yard line with nine kicks over 50 yards and two over 60 with a long of 61. He has also forced five fair catches and surrendered just 60 punt return yards on the season.

Four finalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 21, with the winner named on CBS Sports Network from Houston, Texas, on Dec. 11. The Ray Guy Award is presented by the Augusta (Ga.) Sports Council and recognizes the most outstanding punter in college football.
