Senior right-handed pitcher Tucker Hawley threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout as the Gray team posted a 1-0 win over the Crimson squad in game two of the Crimson and Gray World Series Wednesday.

The Gray team is 2-0 in the series after winning Tuesday’s game one by a score of 7-6. The final game of the three-game Alabama Crimson and Gray World Series will be Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Hawley gave up four singles and allowed one walk with two strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Hawley allowed a two-out walk in the first, before giving up singles in the third, fourth and fifth innings. After retiring the side in order in the sixth, Hawley allowed a one-out single in the seventh, before getting a fly out and a strikeout to end the game.

For the Crimson team, freshman left-handed pitcher Thomas Burrows took the loss after allowing one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Jon Keller threw the final inning for the Crimson team, retiring all three batters he faced.

The Gray squad benefitted from a couple of Crimson miscues in the second inning to score the only run of the game. After Chance Vincent reached on an infield single with one out, he advanced to second on a wild pitch when Will Haynie struck out. With two outs, Mikey White couldn’t come up with a ground ball off the bat of Taylor Propst, allowing Vincent to score from second.

Casey Hughston had the only other hit for the Gray team when he singled to right field to start the fifth inning.

For the Crimson team, Hunter Webb was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, Trevor Sprowl and Mathew Goodson also singled and Georgie Salem reached on a walk in the first inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, Webb singled to put the tying run on first base with one out. White almost tied with the game with a hard drive down the left field line, but the ball was just foul. White flied out to center field, before Salem struck out to end the game.
