Tide's Tomlinson Lost To Knee Injury
Dalvin Tomlinson had seen considerable action in Alabama's season-opening victory over Virginia Tech. Playing second team behind Jeoffrey Pagan, Tomlinson had been in on four tackles in the Tide's 35-10 win.
Alabama had an open date last week, and in practice during the week Tomlinson had what Saban described as a serious knee injury that would require surgery.
On Monday, Saban said, "Dalvin had surgery on Friday. It was a very successful surgery. However, he will be out for the year. I don't think he's going to be coming back any time soon. So he'll be at least 4 or 5 months in rehab.
"He was doing a fantastic job for us, played well in the first game rotating in. We hate to ever see any player get injured. But Dalvin has done everything the right way since he's been here. Just something that is unfortunate that happens in any sport, really."
Tomlinson, 6-2, 287, from Henry County High School in McDonough, Ga., has already been redshirted, sitting out the 2012 season.
