2014 Tide Football Schedule Announced

Alabama will open the 2014 season playing West Virginia in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game and will play Florida as its rotating Southeastern Conference Eastern Division opponent, it was revealed Wednesday.

The Southeastern Conference and The University of Alabama announced the 2014 conference football schedule on Wednesday.

Alabama plays home SEC games against Florida, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Auburn. The Crimson Tide travels to Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, and LSU in league play.

As had been expected, the SEC elected to stay with an eight-game league schedule -- six games against the intradivision opponents, one permanent opponent (Tennessee for Bama), and one rotating opponent. Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban had lobbied for a nine-game conference schedule, but the vote by SEC football coaches was 13-1 against that more challenging slate.

Because there are 14 weekends in the 2014 schedule, SEC teams will once again have two open dates during the season.

The Crimson Tide will open the 2014 season against West Virginia on Aug. 30, which will take place in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta for the second straight year and fourth time overall. Alabama opened the 2008 and 2009 seasons in Atlanta with wins over Clemson and Virginia Tech, respectively. UA and Virginia Tech kick off the season this year in the Georgia Dome a week from Saturday.

Also as part of the 2014 schedule, Florida Atlantic travels to Tuscaloosa on Sept. 6 and UA hosts Western Carolina on Nov. 22. Alabama's final non-conference opponent and the date of that game is yet to be determined.

The 2014 Alabama football schedule:
