College baseball players almost wouldn’t know their sport is known as “the summer game” were it not for various leagues outside of college. Just as summer arrives, the college game – which begins in the throes of February winter – ends. But college players head all around the nation to hone their skills in baseball weather and in appropriately named "summer leagues."

Two Alabama baseball players were recently selected for all-star games in these summer leagues. Upcoming junior pitcher Justin Kamplain and upcoming sophomore Georgie Salem have been recognized for their play.

Alabama left-handed pitcher Justin Kamplain has been selected as an All-Star for the 2013 Cape Cod League All-Star game, the team was announced on Saturday afternoon. Crimson Tide center fielder Georgie Salem has been selected to play in Northwoods League All-Star Game.

Kamplain will be a reserve for the Eastern Division All-Stars when the game is played on July 27 at Red Wilson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CDT, and the game will be televised on Fox College Sports (Comcast Channel 262, DirecTV Channel 623).

Playing for the Brewster Whitecaps, Kamplain has a 2-2 record in six appearances and five starts this summer. Kamplain currently ranks seventh in the CCBL with a 1.97 ERA, while striking out a league-high 33 batters in 32.0 innings pitched.

In addition to Kamplain’s selection to the CCBL All-Star Game, Tide outfielder Georgie Salem will appear in the All-Star Game in the Northwoods League. Salem is currently eighth in the NWL with a .341 batting average, with four home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored for the Alexandria Blue Anchors.

The 2013 Northwoods League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. CDT, at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
