Doing His Part

Shaun Hamilton plans on graduating in December, but he's making plenty of stops in Tuscaloosa in between now and then. He was back on Sunday while the Tide hosted camp and he interacted plenty with Alabama commits and potential commits in the process.

Alabama's July camp began with a bang on Sunday as many of the top prospects in the area came out to showcase their skills. In-state offensive lineman Jordan Sims stole the show in what could be a performance that leads him to Alabama's commit list.

Montgomery (Ala.) Carver linebacker Shaun Hamilton is already in that group, and he echoed the sentiments of Sims' big day while visiting campus on Sunday.

"He was really impressive," he said. "Moves well for a big kid and has strong hands.

"Daron Payne was good too, aggressive and strong."

Hamilton, a three-star talent fresh off of a performance at The Opening, made the snap decision to check out Tuscaloosa to see how things were going.

"I just headed up there," he added. "I didn't even tell anybody I was coming up there, been busy the past few weeks.

"I hung out with Coach [Kirby] Smart a lot and talked with (Coach Nick) Saban afterwards. They just wanted to know how I've been doing and to stay on recruits. "

The Tide staff doesn't recruit the in-state standout much these days based on how solid his pledge is.

"Yea, pretty much," he confirmed with a laugh.

Another pair of commitments worked out on Sunday in Montel McBride and Zach Whitley.

"I met Montel at The Opening, he was cool," said Hamilton. "Zach and I talked throughout the day today.

"He's very quiet and a hard worker. I see him as an inside linebacker."

While each prospect had already earned their offer before committing to Alabama, neither had seen the upgraded facilities in full before the camp.

Said Hamilton, "Awe man, the facilities are the best in the country. I stayed in the lounge for a while. They have an Xbox, PS3, pool table, arcade games, ping pong..."
