Tide Women's Golf Top Regional Seed
The Alabama women's golf team of Coach Mic Potter is the number one seed for the 2013 East Regional at the Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms May 9-11. The top eight teams from the regional tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships at the University of Georgia Golf Course May 21-24.
Last year Bama finished fourth in the regional, but went on to win the national championship at the Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Alabama played in the fall preview in Athens and finished second in an elite field.
There is a good reason Bama is the number one seed in the East and one of the favorites for the overall championship. In addition to being defending national champion and having almost the same team that won last year, Bama has been outstanding in the 2013 season. Bama has turned in six victories, including the winning the conference championship over a difficult Greystone Club course by 14 strokes.
"It is time for us to put the SEC Championship behind us and focus on the next shot," Potter said. "For our season to continue we have to play well at regionals, nothing is promised us, so it is important that we go out and play as well as we possibly can."
It is the eighth straight invitation to postseason competition for the Crimson Tide.
Since Potter's arrival at The Capstone prior to the 2005-06 season, the Crimson Tide has qualified for the NCAA Regionals each season and advanced to the NCAA Championships seven consecutive years. The 2013 selection is the 15th NCAA appearance in school history.
For Potter, the regional berth marks the 20th consecutive appearance by a team under his direction. The Hall of Fame coach has now led a team to a regional bid in each season since the format came into existence in 1993.
Joining Alabama in the NCAA East Regional is No. 2 seed Arkansas, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 5 Virginia, and Big 12 Champion and No. 6 seed Oklahoma State.
Along with the Crimson Tide and Razorbacks, the 24-team NCAA East Regional boasts four other SEC foes -- Tennessee (11 seed), Kentucky (12 seed), host Auburn (14 seed), and Ole Miss (19 seed).
