Alabama’s Jackie Traina had a few control problems in the seventh inning, but the All-Ameica junior pitched out of a bases-loaded situation as the Crimson Tide held on for a 4-1 win over Missouri at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa Friday night.

Alabama, ranked fourth in the nation, tagged the NCAA leader in earned run average, Chelsea Thomas, for four runs en route to the victory over sixth ranked Missouri. For the Crimson Tide, Traina allowed one run on five hits and struck out six. In four of the seven innings, Traina ended the frame by striking out one of the Tigers.

Alabama improved to 34-5 overall and 9-4 in Southeastern Conference play. Missouri is now 22-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

Alabama and Missouri will meet for game two of the three-game series at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday at Rhoads Stadium with television coverage by ESPNU.

Junior Molly Fichtner led Alabama’s seven-hit offensive attack with a 3-for-3 night with a run and a RBI. Junior Kaila Hunt batted 2-for-2 while senior Courtney Conley drove in two runs. With two outs and a full count in the second inning, Conley drilled a double to deep left-center to plate Fichtner and sophomore Danae Hays to take a 2-0 lead.

Alabama extended its lead to 4-0 with two runs in the third. Senior Kayla Braud was able to beat out a throw at the plate on a Traina chopper to third. Fichtner then singled to left to score Hunt.

Traina gave up a leadoff single in the seventh and then walked two batters. Missouri then put up its only run of the night with an infield single from first baseman Kelsea Roth.
