BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama women’s basketball team dropped a 76-42 decision at LSU on Thursday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. With the loss, the Crimson Tide slides to 12-16 overall and 2-13 against Southeastern Conference opponents while the Tigers improve to 18-10 on the season and 9-6 in the league.
“We really missed Meghan Perkins (who was out with an injury) in this game,” said
Alabama
Coach Wendell Hudson. “We started the game 1-9 from the floor, and when you get down like that, especially being on the road at the other team’s senior night, it is going to be tough to come back.
LSU
used their size, and we committed too many fouls not boxing out.”
The Tigers took advantage of their 31 trips to the free throw line, hitting 26, while the Tide was 3-8 from the stripe. LSU also out-rebounded Alabama, 58-35, including 20-8 on the offensive glass.
The Tigers opened the game with 13 straight points before sophomore Daisha Simmons hit Alabama’s first basket at the 14:54 mark. The Tide chipped its deficit down to five but the Tigers would respond with eight unanswered to pull in front 25-12 with 7:05 remaining in the half. LSU would close out the half on a 14-7 run to lead 39-19 at the break.
The Tigers would continue to distance themselves in the second half, thanks to a 12-4 run over the first four minutes. LSU would lead by as many as 36 in the game.
Simmons finished as the Tide’s leading scorer with 10 points while junior Jasmine Robinson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. The Tigers were led by senior Adrienne Webb, who had 21 points. In addition, freshman Danielle Ballard added 14 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
Alabama will play its last regular season game on Sunday when it hosts
Missouri
. The game is slated to tip at 2 p.m. CT in Foster Auditorium.
