Pruitt on Alabama, early top five
Jovan Pruitt is one of the more coveted prospects in the Lone Star State in the 2014 class, and he had invites to several big-time Junior Days over the weekend, including to Alabama and Texas. He didn't make either, but got some good news from one of the two anyway. The national champs offered the 6-foot-6, 295-pound standout from Dallas (Tex.) Bishop Dunne High. "I was very excited and I'm glad that they offered," said Pruitt on Monday. "I should have made it to their Junior Day. "Coach Johnson, our head coach, told me about the offer. I'm very interested in them." With offers now from Baylor, Colorado State Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas in addition to the Crimson Tide - the competition for Pruitt is only getting tougher. Still, Alabama stands out. "Their head coach (Nick Saban," he said as to why. "And they get the job done down there. They've won three of the last four BCS (championship) games. "I'll give a top five of 'Bama, Notre Dame, UT, OU and Baylor." Pruitt, who is currently ranked the No. 22 offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2014 on FOXSportsNEXT/Scout.com, claims no favorites early on despite the early top five. "I want to visit Alabama soon," he added on his visit plans. "But I'm going to OU's Junior Day on March 9." <>As for what he's looking for in his eventual school of choice, education will be big for the Lone Star State standout. "A place where I can receive a master's degree of the highest education and a great football program to go hand-and-hand with my academics," said Pruitt. "I want to major in sports management or engineering." At his size, with a desire for furthered education, more offers from big-time programs are likely for Pruitt. Coaches have been telling him similar things upon watching his tape. "My motor," he said first. "I never stop playing in between the whistles and how physical I can be. And my size, too." Though the three-star is enjoying the process with plans to see some of his top five sooner than later, there's no rush for a commitment. No current timetable for a decision exists. Said Pruitt, "It's pretty far away. I still have time to make the right decision for my future."
