Update On Tide At SEC Swim Meet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sophomore Angely Martinez led Alabama on day four of the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships being held in Texas A&M Natatorium this week after taking eighth place in the platform diving event.



Martinez posted a score of 258.65 to post her second top-eight finish of her career at the SEC Championships. Freshman Emma Saunders posted a career-best 54.09 to take 19th place. Saunders' time is just two-hundredths of a second off Stacy Potter's 1994 school record.

Sophomore Emily Facchine took 22nd place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.87. In prelims she posted a career-best 2:00.23, which ranks her fifth all-time at Alabama. In the 100 breaststroke sophomore Kaylin Burchell touched the wall with a 1:00.89, good for 16th place.

The Tide women finished off the day with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay. Junior Stephanie Kinsey, Burchell, freshman Justine Panian and Saunders combined to post a 3:38.09.

Junior Andrew Wrist took 15th place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:47.57 while junior Hunter Hinson took 24th with a time of 1:47.94. Wrist posted a 1:47.10 in prelims, which ranks him 10th all-time for the Tide.

Sophomore Philip Deaton, junior Vlad Caciuc and senior Reese Shirey all scored in the 100 backstroke. Deaton posted a career-best 48.92, good for 20th place while Caciuc took 22nd with a 49.00 and Shirey was 24th with a 49.35. In prelims, Shirey touched the wall with a career-best 48.56, which ranks him sixth all-time for the Tide.

Junior Cameron Conners took 18th in the 100 breaststroke with a career-best time of 54.65 while junior Philip Dockery posted a career-best 55.91 to take 22nd place. Conner's time, which dropped almost half a second between prelims and finals, ranks him sixth all-time for the Tide.

Alabama's men and women finished the day in 10th place with men tallying 302 points and the women 264.

Alabama returns to action on Saturday with the men's and women's 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke as well as men's platform diving.
