Alabama freshman shortstop Mikey White (Birmingham) was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday night. White posted a .545 batting average last week to help the Crimson Tide post a series sweep over the VMI Keydets.

A true freshman, White started at shortstop and hit second in the Alabama order in all three games. White was 6-for-11 on the weekend that included six singles, three RBI, three walks and a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. He also finished the three-game set against VMI with a .643 on-base percentage.

White got his career off to a start with a bang, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in the first game of the season. His biggest hit of the night came in the seventh inning when he drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single up the middle.

In game two, White was 1-for-2 with three walks and a pair of stolen bases and he finished the series with a 1-for-4 afternoon on Sunday. Defensively, White was part of four double plays turned by the Tide on the weekend. He committed just one error in 15 chances.

Zach Powers of Florida and J.T. Riddle of Kentucky were the SEC Co-Players of the Week, and Bobby Wahl of Mississippi earned pitcher of the week honors.

Alabama returns to the diamond tonight when it hosts the No. 21 ranked Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The Tide will start sophomore left-hander Taylor Guilbeau, while the Golden Eagles will counter with freshman righty Jake Winston. First Pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
