Here's a trivia question for you. The Alabama women’s basketball team (12-9, 2-6 SEC) will take on Florida (13-9, 2-6 SEC) on Sunday for the Crimson Tide’s second road contest of the week. The game will tip at noon CST in the O’Connell Center and will air live on FS Florida. As for the question, which team has the lead in this series?
Alabama
and
Florida
will be meeting for the 52nd time in program history on Sunday. The Tide leads the overall series, 29-22, and has won three of the last five meetings; however the Gators picked up a 61-37 victory the last time the two teams met on Jan. 16, 2012, in Gainesville.
Both teams are coming off close road losses on Thursday as Alabama’s comeback fell short at
Georgia
, dropping a 65-59 decision in Athens, while Florida was edged in Columbia by
Missouri
, 69-64.
In the loss to the Lady Bulldogs, junior Shafontaye Myers led four Tide players in double figures with 12 points. Junior Jasmine Robinson and sophomores Kaneisha Horn and Daisha Simmons added 10 apiece. Horn also collected 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Myers has hit her stroke offensively in her third season with the team, averaging 12.2 points per game, which is more than her previous two seasons combined. She has been particularly hot from three-point range in SEC play this season, connecting on an average of 3.4 shots per game. Simmons continues to pace the Tide on offense with a team-high 12.4 points per game while Horn contributes a team-best 5.6 rebounds per contest. Simmons also leads Alabama in assists per game (4.1) and steals per game (2.6).
Florida senior Jennifer George scored 13 points and junior Vicky McIntyre added another 12 points against the Tigers, but the difference in the Gators’ loss on Thursday to Missouri was at the free throw line where Florida was only 54.2 percent (13-24) for the game.
George leads the Gators in nearly every statistical category for the season including points (12.7 ppg), rebounds (8.0 rpg), steals (2.0 spg), blocks (1.5 bpg) and field goal percentage (.525).
