Lady Vols run past Georgia

Two freshmen delivered for Tennessee on Sunday as the Lady Vols defeated Georgia, 79-66. Go inside for a quick recap of the game.

Tennessee (11-3, 2-0) took our rival Georgia (13-2, 1-1) in similar fashion to its Thursday game - a tight first half followed by the unleashing of its offense and defense in the second.

Holly Warlick has shown the ability to make adjustments in the locker room, and she saluted her team for being coachable and applying what was said in timeouts to the court.

Bashaara Graves scored a career-high 23 points, while fellow freshman Jasmine Jones added a career-high 12 points and showed the fans what her coaches and teammates have seen in practice. Graves smiled and nodded several times when asked if she had been waiting to see this type of performance from Jones.

Graves' 23 points were the most by a freshman since Meighan Simmons tallied the same number against Stanford in 2010.

Simmons also reached double figures in the game with 16 points while Taber Spani added 11 and logged 38 minutes, the most of any Lady Vol.

Georgia had three players in double figures - Khaalidah Miller with 14 points, Jasmine James with 18 and Tiaria Griffin with 10.

Georgia coach Andy Landers noted that the significant damage done to his team was done by freshmen.

Tennessee will next host SEC newcomer Missouri on Thursday at 7 p.m. Eastern. Recommended Stories
