2015 Linebacker Gets Gator Offer

Holland is one of UF's first 2015 offers.

Sometimes they just get recognized sooner than others. Such is the case for 2015 linebacker / running back Jeffery Holland of Jacksonville Trinity Christian. The 6-2, 227 pound hitting machine got three big scholarship offers on Tuesday including one from the Florida Gators. He still has two years of high school ball to play.

Jeffery Holland rushed 70 times for 760 yards in 2012, but it is on the defensive side of the ball where he is getting noticed the most by college scouts. He has 11 sacks to go along with countless tackles and other defensive big plays and this week Holland picked up his 7th, 8th, and 9th offer from some pretty high profile programs.

Florida was the first one in at the school on Tuesday and Florida linebacker coach D.J. Durkin told the coaches at Trinity that they would love to have him play linebacker at Florida one day.

"I guess I could play any of the linebacker positions," Durkin evidently said to the Trinity staff. "I have eight or nine offers right now. Florida, Louisville, and Ohio State offered me (Tuesday)."

He's been to Florida games five times this year and really liked what he saw from the defensive side of the ball.

"I went to the big games, LSU and South Carolina," he said of his visits to Gainesville. "I didn't get a chance to go to the Florida State game. The Gator defense are dogs man, they are beasts. I love their defense."

The Florida linebacker coach is really impressed with the physical attributes of the young defender. Those attributes make him a very good basketball player and in his last game he had 26 points and three dunks in the win.

"Durkin says I have great feet and can move sideline to sideline," Holland said. "He says I am very athletic."

The Florida offer is big for Holland and really for his family who like him to stay close to home when he heads off to college.

"I was a Florida fan growing up," he said. "So it is very exciting for me and my family… very exciting.

"My dad and grandmother don't want me to leave too far from home. I am looking for a good coaching staff and fan base and coaches that care about you."

Florida will likely be dropping in on Trinity for a while. The team is loaded with young talent like fellow 2015 class teammate Kevin Toliver who also got a Florida offer on Tuesday and is already committed to LSU.

"We had a good season and just fell short in the first playoff game," Holland said. "We lost only one regular season game, and we are really young."
