Bain eyeing five schools

Fresh off a state championship victory Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University School defensive tackle prospect talks about five schools that are still in his sights.

Four-star defensive tackle Maquedius Bain was just happy to contribute to his team. It was all about winning, both for the current squad and the won that lost the state championship back in 2010. Saturday after noon, he and the University School Suns from Fort Lauderdale were crowned 3A state champions, after beating talented Madison County 24-17.

"This was for the guys," Bain said. "This is such a great feeling. We fought and worked so hard. It's what we wanted. I wasn't here in 2010 but we lost [the state championship game]. We wanted to win this and give it to them and the school."

Bain, 6-foot-4 and 290-pounds, mainly played offensive tackle in this game. He helped protect quarterback Mike White, who led them back from 17-0 deficit.

"I can play either position in college," Bain said. "But I want to play defense at the next level."

Now the question for Bain is where will be play? He was a one time commitment to Florida State.

"It was best for me to back off that commitment," Bain said. "Things were crazy and I had to back off. But I did recently have an in-home visit with FSU. I also had one with LSU and they are coming back."

Bain has also made recent official visits this fall to both Oklahoma and Marshall. Those are two schools that he can see himself at.

"Oklahoma was great," Bain said. "It was fun and they showed me a good time. Bob Stoops has a great program and they always win. It was a very exciting time for me.

"Marshall is my backup plan in case things don't work out with my SAT or grades. Plus, I know some kids there."

Who else is Bain looking at?

"LSU for sure and Louisville," Bain said. "They are both coming for in-home visits next week."

Bain also said he will make his decision on national signing day. Recommended Stories
