It will be the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week against the SEC Offensive Player of Almost Every Week when Alabama hosts Texas A&M on Saturday. Bama stayed undefeated with a road win at LSU, while the Aggies romped Mississippi State with A&M’s high-powered offense.
For his play in Tiger Stadium Saturday night,
Alabama
linebacker
Adrian Hubbard
was selected as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. The Crimson Tide rallied in the final moments for a 21-17 win to remain undefeated and maintain Bama’s number one national rank.
This week Alabama (9-0 overall, 6-0 in SEC games) hosts
Texas A&M
(7-2, 4-2) at 2:30 p.m. CST in Bryant-Denny Stadium. CBS will televise the game.
The Aggies are led by freshman quarterback
Johnny Manziel
who seems to be setting new records for offense each week.
Alabama’s defense found itself in a tough battle from
LSU
in Tiger Stadium. Hubbard, a 6-6, 248-pound sophomore outside linebacker from Lawrenceville, Ga., had a career-high and game-tying 12 tackles, including being in on three tackles for losses. He was also in on the tackle that stopped LSU’s failed fourth-and-one attempt at the Tide 24 in the fourth quarter.
Hubbard was in on a quarterback sack for minus seven yards that forced an LSU punt.
The Alabama defense finished the game with 10 tackles for loss, three of them sacks.
Alabama ranks first nationally in scoring defense (9.1 points per game) and second in total defense (228 yards per game).
Also earning mention from the SEC office was Alabama wide receiver
Kevin Norwood
, who caught five passes for 62 yards, including making three receptions for first downs on the Tide’s game-winning drive.
