He's baaaack! Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley had been one of the Crimson Tide players of the week, as selected by the coaching staff, in Bama's first six games. In a win over Tennessee in which he was the leading tackler and had a pass interception to set up a touchdown, he was not a player of the game. After the Tide's win over Mississippi State, however, Mosley is once again recognized.
Nine
Alabama
players were recognized by the coaching staff for their outstanding performances following Saturday’s 38-7 victory over No. 11
Mississippi State
.
Chance Warmack
,
Michael Williams
and
T.J. Yeldon
were named players of the week on offense while
Denzel Devall
and
C.J. Mosley
represented the defense. On special teams, John Fulton,
Christion Jones
,
Cyrus Jones
and
Cody Mandell
were selected.
Warmack, who earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week as well, graded out 90 per cent with four pancake blocks. He had no missed assignments, no penalties, no sacks and no pressures in the Crimson Tide victory.
Williams recorded a game-high five receptions for 38 yards with one touchdown, a nine-yard strike from
A.J. McCarron
that put Alabama up 21-0 early in the second quarter. Williams and Warmack helped block for a ground game that totaled 179 yards, led by Yeldon’s game-high 84 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Yeldon scored the first touchdown of the game from 11 yards out and leads UA in rushing this season with 649.
Mosley, who has been named a player of the week following seven of Alabama’s eight games, was credited with seven tackles (four solo) and a quarterback hurry. He leads an Alabama defense that ranks first nationally in all four major defensive categories with 65 total tackles this season.
Devall made an impact with his pass rushing ability, recording two tackles for loss, one sack and two QB pressures. The sack was the second of the season for the true freshman.
On special teams, Mandell had a solid game with an average of 42.2 yards on five punts. He had a long of 61 and three punts inside the 20 as the Bulldogs were limited to one punt return for no yards.
Fulton had two tackles in the game, including one on kickoff coverage, and downed a punt at the 2-yard line.
Christion Jones forced a pair of fumbles on kickoff coverage and also caught one pass for 22 yards.
On kickoff return, Cyrus Jones had two returns for 76 yards with a long of 41 on
The Opening
kickoff that resulted in a Crimson Tide touchdown.
