Ball-Hawking Lester Leads Tide Defense

Ball-hawking Alabama safety Robert Lester was up to his old tricks tonight. Twice the senior was credited with a takeaway in the Tide's 38-7 homecoming victory over previously unbeaten Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were looking to score after a sixteen play 3rd quarter ninety-seven yard drive to the 1-yard line. Lester responded with an interception in the end zone, his third of the season

Mississippi State was behind 24-0 trying to generate momentum. The aerial theft occurred after the Bulldogs had held the ball for eleven minutes and ten seconds. Robert Lester recorded his thirteen career interception, ranking eighth on the school's all-time list.

The second chance turnover happened after an early fourth quarter Alabama drive stalled at the Bulldogs 47. Tide punter Cody Mandell punted 19 yards to the 28-yard line. A fumble by Deontae Skinner was recovered by the opportunistic Foley High School grad. Running back Eddie Lacy scored on a 27-yard screen pass from Tide reserve quarterback Phillip Ely three plays later to increase the lead to 31-0. Lester continues to enhance his reputation as a valuable member of the nation's leading defense with crucial plays.
