The University of Alabama baseball team will begin its fall workouts on Wednesday, and the Crimson Tide will have team scrimmages on Thursday and Friday this week at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. During the six weeks of the fall practice schedule, the Tide will have 27 practice days that will include approximately 15 intrasquad opportunities.
Alabama
baseball fans are invited to visit “The Joe” for fall scrimmages. There is no admission charge. Both scrimmages this week are open to the public with first pitch set for approximately 3:30 p.m., on Thursday and Friday. The final day of the fall season will be Friday, Oct. 26, with the final team scrimmage.
The Tide, led by the return of 2012 Freshman All-America Ben Moore, welcomes back 18 letter-winners, including four position starters and 11 pitchers. Other key position returners include Brett Booth, Kenny Roberts and Austen Smith, while the Alabama pitching staff returns Spencer Turnbull, Jake Hubbard and Jon Keller, along with medical redshirts from 2012 Tucker Hawley and Taylor Wolfe.
UA welcomes 18 newcomers and three redshirts to the 2012 fall roster, which includes three players, Mikey White, Wade Wass and Ray Castillo, who were 2012 MLB Draft selections. The Crimson Tide added 11 position players and seven pitchers to the roster for the upcoming season.
Head coach Mitch Gaspard enters his fourth season leading the Alabama baseball program. In his first three years, Gaspard has a 98-84 record, while leading the Tide to back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in 2010 and 2011. He also guided UA to a Super Regional finish in 2010.
