The Alabama football coaching staff selected six Players of the Week for their performances in Saturday’s 35-0 victory over Western Kentucky. The coaches named two each on offense, defense, and special teams.
Quarterback
A.J. McCarron
and wide receiver
Kevin Norwood
were named players of the week on offense for
Alabama
; linebackers
Nico Johnson
and
C.J. Mosley
represented the defense; and on special teams, kickoff man
Cade Foster
and cornerback John Fulton, who played on coverage and return teams, were selected.
McCarron, a junior from Mobile, tied a career-high with four touchdown passes as he completed 14-of-19 passes for 219 yards. He has also moved into a tie for sixth in the UA history with 95 straight passes without an interception. Norwood, a junior from D'Iberville, Miss., was on the receiving end of two of those TD passes, as he scored on receptions of 33 and 12 yards. The junior finished the day with 92 yards on three grabs and also had a one kickoff return for 22 yards.
Mosley, a junior from Theodore, was credited with a game-high 11 tackles (seven solo) with a sack and a pass break-up. Johnson, a senior from Andalusia, was next on the tackle list with eight stops (four solo) along with a forced fumble and a pass break-up. The two linebackers helped the Crimson Tide defense register its fourth shutout in the last 13 games. The defense forced four turnovers in the game and limited WKU to just 224 total yards (46 rushing).
On special teams, Foster, a junior from Southlake, Texas, had a solid day as the kickoff specialist with three touchbacks on six attempts. He averaged 67.0 yards a kick with a net of 46.7 yards. Foster also assisted on a tackle while covering a kickoff. Fulton, a junior from Manning, S.C., played on the kickoff, kickoff return and punt return teams on Saturday while also making his first career start at cornerback. He had a tackle inside the 20 on kickoff coverage and finished the game three tackles.
