Alabama’s spot atop the polls is safe after shutting out Western Kentucky 35-0 Saturday. Though the team wasn’t satisfied with its performance—the offensive line gave up six sacks, several players were injured and the running game only rushed for 103 yards—the voters will keep the Tide at No. 1.
In the AP Poll, Alabama, who had 48 first-place votes, is followed by USC (eight first-place votes), LSU (four first-place votes) and Oregon, and Florida State and Oklahoma are tied for the No. 5 spot.
Arkansas, the Tide’s next opponent, was previously ranked No. 8 but spiraled out of the poll after Louisiana-Monroe stunned them in overtime, 34-31.
In the Coaches' Poll, the Tide received 42 first-place votes, LSU jumped USC for the No. 2 spot and Arkansas fell from No. 10 to 21, rather than completely out of the poll.
