Tony Brown earns Tide offer

Tony Brown, safety prospect from Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas, spent four days this week camping at the University of Alabama. Brown left Tuscaloosa with a scholarship offer from the 2011 BCS National Champions.

"I went to Alabama for four days," said Tony Brown. "I got to their camp on Sunday and stayed until Wednesday. I left early Wednesday so I could go do some one-on-ones at Mississippi State. The visit was my first-ever trip to Alabama.

"I liked the camp a lot. I had a good time out there. They work you really hard. It's no wonder why they win so much. I like coach Saban. He is very hands-on with the DBs. I enjoyed working out with the coaches.

"Overall the visit was nice. I like it a lot there. They have nice facilities. I took a tour of the campus, and it was really nice. The coaches told me they like how versatile I am. They liked how I picked up the defensive schemes and learned the play calls."

Brown was joined by his father this week in Tuscaloosa. He plans to return to the Capstone in the future.

"I like how they are a winning program," he said. "I like the tradition. There aren't any professional teams in Alabama. The fan base is all Alabama. I like the atmosphere. I am going back so I can take my mom with me. I want her to see everything."

The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete has reeled in scholarship offers from Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, TCU and Texas A&M. He is also receiving interest from Florida State, Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Stanford, Oregon and USC. He will camp at Texas A&M and Texas this weekend.

"I think schools must think very highly of me just completing my sophomore year to have the offers I have right now," Brown said. "I must be doing something right. I know I have to keep working hard. Hopefully more offers will come. I will probably have a top five after this season."

Brown is open to play cornerback or safety on the next level.
