Alabama landed a commitment from Peach State tight end Kurt Freitag on Tuesday night and you can…
"I am used to winning."
Kurt Freitag Scout.com Rating: Three-star Scout.com Rank: No. 20 Tight End Size: 6-foot-4, 250-pounds School: Buford, Ga. Projected Position: Tight End Commit Date: 12/05/2011 Recruiting Competition: Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, South Carolina Why Alabama: 'It was a hard decision. I thought about Alabama and Florida, but Alabama is the school I feel is the right one for me, and I committed to them. It has really always been those two schools for me. I changed my mind a few time between them, but I just kept feeling Alabama was the best fit. "They are a strong running team, but they know how to use their tight ends too. I like their balance. I think Nick Saban is a great head coach as well. He knows how to get his players ready to play, and he has Alabama, like we did at Buford. "I am used to winning, so I want to play for a winner in college. That is another reason I chose them. I have a great relationship with Brian Vogler and the other tight ends. You can't say enough about coach Saban and his program. They produce top talent athletes and send players to the NFL. The proof is in the pudding there." Coach Quotes: "The first thing is Kurt is a really tough young man," said Buford quarterback coach Neil Auer. "He has a lot of qualities that are great for a football player. He is big, strong, fast, he's got a good upside. He is going to be a really large young man that can run. He really can run. "In our offense we ask him to do a lot of blocking. And as a receiver he made some tremendous catches for us over the last three years. Not only on offense, but on defense as well. He's a tough kid that knows how to take on a block and is a very, very productive pass rusher as well. "I think he liked the structure of the University of Alabama. Obviously he liked what they were like on the field. They really use their tight ends as well, so I think that was definitely something that played big in his decision." Andrew Bone says: "Freitag is a physical football player who has very good size as a good pass catcher and run blocker. His best strength is his blocking ability. He was a standout on the offensive and defensive side of the ball in high school. He loves physical contact. "He is 6-foot-4, 250-pounds and can throw some devastating blocks on linebackers and help support against defensive ends in the SEC. He doesn't have breakaway speed, but is a very dependable pass catcher. He runs great routes and knows how to get open." Rebecca Johnston contributed to this report.
