Richardson Has Eye On The Prize
Alabama, 11-1 and ranked second in the nation, will play undefeated (13-0) and top-ranked LSU at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the BCS National Championship Game in the Louisiana Superdome. ESPN will televise the game.
The Alabama team flew into New Orleans Wednesday. Crimson Tide star tailback Trent Richardson was asked if he was excited about the game now that the team was in the Crescent City.
"I'm not one of the guys to ghet too excited about the game," said the All-America tailback. "It's more or less about going back and being a part of something I realy wanted to be a part of a couple of years ago. I have that chance again to be a part of something I really wanted."
Richardson was a back-up tailback to Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram when Alabama defeated Texas in the BCS National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena at the end of the 2009 season.
Richardson thinks the 2009 national championship game experience could be a help to the Tide against LSU.
"It helps a lot," he said. "That comes with leadership and veterans and a lot of guys know how to go out and practice and how to go about things. We are going to step up as leaders on the team and we are going to get after it.
LSU defeated Alabama during the regular season. The Tigers took a 9-6 overtime decision.
Richardson said, "It was a real good game. They have a lot of good players, just like we do. We just fell short. This time around I feel like everyone absolutely knows everything they are going to do. Just from watching film, I feel like we've got a lot of good reads and a real good game plan. We just have to go out and execute.
"After the game we had against those guys last game, everyone is focused on being more prepared. So far, as far as practice and film study goes, a lot of guys know more than they knew last time."
He said he's not worried about players being out too late in New Orleans.
"One of my goals this year was to get better and to have a chance to play in the National Championship Game."
