Grant Hill talks SEC offer
"I was excited," Grant Hill said of his offer from Alabama on Saturday. "Them losing couldn't overshadow that. It was great. "I was pretty excited. It's not like it came as a complete surprise to me. They have shown interest in me. Overall it was great experience." Hill talked with Head Coach Nick Saban prior to kick-off Saturday night. "Coach Saban offered me before the game," Hill said. "My dad and I talked to him before the game. We talked about our season. He talked about the LSU game, and the key components it would take to win. "He said he is going to have a scholarship come my way. It's a verbal offer. I can't get a written offer until my senior year. He basically said you are the type of guy we want here. "I don't know if it's 100-percent football. I have good grades. I know academics are important. They are always short on offensive tackles because can't get enough of them. On my last visit he talked about needing tackles with finesse to pass block and power to run block." The 6-foot-5, 325-pound lineman gave his game impressions of the Alabama loss to LSU. He isn't afraid to speak his mind. "If you ask me, Alabama came out too predictable in their offensive play-calling," said Hill. "I know they are not trying to make big mistakes. I thought the play-calling was too conservative. It was run-run-pass, run-run-pass. "We didn't come out in the second half on fire. You can't blame it all on the kicker. It was the circumstances he was put in and the field position. It just seemed like LSU had a couple of breaks and Alabama didn't. That was the deciding factor. When being conservative, then have the INT, and missed field goals are huge. The small details matter." Hill was impressed with the game day atmosphere. "I thought it was a great atmosphere," he said. "You couldn't ask for a better atmosphere to play a football game in. I heard there was over 200,000 people in town. It looked like New York City on the quad. They had 90,000 shakers from the Penn State donor. You couldn't ask for anything better." Huntsville travels to undefeated Mountain Brook Friday night in the second round of the playoffs. "It's going to be a tough," Hill said. "We watched film on them. They are good, but they are nothing special. They are well coached." Follow Andrew Bone on TWITTER for the very latest recruiting news.
