Games of the Week

Week nine of the high school football season has several monster games in the state of Alabama. Several teams across the state are playing for regional titles. Andrew Bone takes a look at 10 games of the week which also include a couple of Tide commitments.

Class 6A

No. 2 Hoover at No. 4 Mountain Brook
Quick Hitter: Can the Spartans defeat the Bucs for the region championship? They have the team this year that can do it plus home field advantage. This one should come down to the wire. These two teams will likely meet again in the playoffs. Marlon Humphrey will line up on defense for the Bucs while the Spartans also feature lineman Paul Davis.

No. 1 Daphne at No. 6 McGill-Toolen
Quick Hitter: Is this the week Daphne slips up and loses? Both teams are undefeated, and the Trojans play on the road. McGill will have to stop T.J. Yeldon (Auburn commitment) on offense and Ryan Anderson (Alabama commitment) on defense to pull the upset.

No. 8 Northridge vs. Hillcrest
Quick Hitter: This game is for the region championship and bragging rights in Tuscaloosa. The teams are undefeated and will definitely give a huge momentum boost to the winner.

Class 5A

No. 2 Hartselle at Cullman
Quick Hitter: Cullman's only loss this year was to No. 6 Fort Payne. They face undefeated and No. 2 ranked Hartselle at home.

Class 4A

No. 1 Thomasville at No. 2 Jackson (Legion Field)
Quick Hitter: Both teams are undefeated and ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the state. Big rivalry game. Alabama commitment Tyler Hayes will bring his typical 'A' game for this contest.

No. 3 Dadeville at No. 8 Beauregaurd
Quick Hitter: These two teams are a combine 16-0 this season. These games are what Friday night football is all about in the South. Both teams are led by their defenses. Dadeville features Darrion Hutcherson (Auburn commitment), and a couple of 2013 prospects in defensive tackle Rod Crayton and wide receiver Terry Toler.

No. 4 North Jackson at No. 10 Fairview
Quick Hitter: This is another great 4A matchup. North Jackson is undefeated this year. Fairview's only loss came against No. 9 Guntersville.

Class 3A

No. 4 Leeds at No. 3 Handley
Quick Hitter: Leeds isn't accustomed to losing. The defending state champs lost to No. 6 Clay County in Week 3. Handley is undefeated and defeated Clay County the following week. Each game was decided by a touchdown. A great match-up with Alabama commitment Bradley Bozeman (Handley) and defensive lineman Javiie Mitchell (Leeds).

No. 8 Hanceville at No. 2 Hamilton
Quick Hitter: These two teams are undefeated playing for the region championship.

Class 2A

No. 7 Vincent at No. 4 American Christian
Quick Hitter: American Christian lost their first game of the season to Pickens County by five points. Since then they have blown out every opponent led by quarterback and Houston commitment Austin Grammer. Vincent also has one loss on the year. They could upset the Patriots at home for the region title.
