Marlon Humphrey visits Tuscaloosa

Marlon Humphrey, cornerback from Hoover, Ala., created a lot of early buzz when he was a standout performer in his team's win against South Panola at the beginning of the year. The class of 2014 prospect has continued with his impressive performance all season. Humphrey talked with Andrew Bone about his skill set and recruiting.

Marlon Humphrey's father, Bobby, was an All-American running back for the Crimson Tide in 1986 and '87. He was Offensive Player of the Year in 1987 voted by UPI and finished 10th on the Heisman Trophy ballot. He was drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 1989. His brother, Maudrecus, plays wide receiver for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Marlon Humphrey prefers the opposite side of the ball.

"I would say I am best in one-on-one coverage," Humphrey said who has four interceptions this year including two for touchdowns. "I am a good tackler and do a good job in outside containment. I'd like to improve my press coverage. We don't press much."

The 6-foot, 165-pound sophomore, who has a best of 4.51 in the 40-yard dash, has received early interest from Alabama and Auburn. Humphrey visited Tuscaloosa this past weekend and will travel to Auburn this weekend for an unofficial visit.

"The visit to Alabama was good," said Humphrey. "They told me they want me there. I talked to Nick [Saban]. They are recruiting me. They said I am too young right now to get an official offer in the mail. Coach Saban said he watched my film. He liked it. He said I play aggressive.

"I thought the game was pretty good. The offense started off a little slow. I watched Dre Kirkpatrick to see what all he was doing out there. He plays aggressive. He gets off blocks really good."

Humphrey will keep an open mind during the recruiting process with strong ties to Alabama and also Arkansas.

"They have a lot of tradition there," Humphrey said of Alabama. "You can be coached by the best. It would be a good choice to go there."
