Grant Hill, offensive lineman from Huntsville, Ala., is a 2013 recruit who is emerging on the radar…
Intro: Grant Hill
"Alabama invited me down for their game this past weekend," said Grant Hill. "The visit was pretty fun. I have never experienced anything like that. I got to meet the coaches. Overall it was a real good experience.
"I spoke with coach Saban, coach Cochran, coach Sunseri. Ed [Marynowitz] introduced me to coach Saban. I talked to coach Cochran about weight training. Coach Sunseri said he wants me to come down to camp.
"I think Alabama looks pretty good. Their defense is really, really good. They definitely have some areas to improve on. Overall they are great. I was impressed with the running game."
Hill has also been invited to a couple of out-of-state schools to watch games this season.
"I haven't really heard from anyone else," he said. "Alabama is the first school to start sending me mail and showing interest. Mississippi State has invited me to attend one of their games. Nebraska also invited me."
Hill is familiar with the SEC team in Tuscaloosa, but more than a handful of other programs have also caught his eye.
"I definitely like the history of the program," Hill said of Alabama. "They don't just have a good team this year. You look back at the Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings teams, and they were great.
"The atmosphere of the campus is great. The 10- mile radius of Tuscaloosa is all about Alabama football. There is nothing else. I like the stadium with the four big screens. Overall it's a good atmosphere. The coaches are friendly. Overall it's a great school.
"I am definitely interested in Alabama, Mississippi State, Arkansas, LSU, Florida State and Clemson. I am just really interested in anywhere that has a good academic program. I want to get a good overall feel for the program.
"I think I am going back to Alabama for the LSU game. I think we may try to go to a Mississippi State game. We will go from there. I am not really focused on schools right now. I am just focused on football and academics."
Hill might not have been on the early recruiting radar after missing the first five games during his sophomore season due to a lumbar stress fracture in his vertebrae.
Hill is fully recovered from the injury and went on to have a terrific spring where he earned All-American honors in the discus and shot put at AAU and USA Track and Field nationals. He is a two-time AAU national champion in the discus. He was the AAU and USA Track and Field National Discus Champion and Junior Olympics record holder. He finished as the AAU national runner-up in the shot put in 2009.
Hill plays on both sides of the ball and rotates between right and left tackle. Opposing teams have a tough time matching up because of his size, agility and power.
"I would say my strength and being able to move my feet are my biggest strengths," he said. "Something I have had a problem with is staying low. I really focused on that in the Florence game. I could tell a difference. I am also really quick off the ball."
