Several former Alabama players start for NFL franchises. Andrew Bone takes a look at the Week 1 performances.
Mark Ingram
(New Orleans):
The former
Alabama
Heisman Trophy winner started game one for the Saints, but split time with
Pierre Thomas
and Darren Sproles in the backfield. Ingram had 13 carries for 40 yards in a 42-34 loss to the Packers.
Roman Harper
(New Orleans):
The Saints had quite a shootout with the Packers losing 42-34 at Green Bay. The former Alabama safety recorded nine tackles and .5 sack in the loss.
Julio Jones
(Atlanta):
The score was a little surprising when the Falcolns were defeated in Chicago 30-12. Jones recorded five catches for 72 yards with a long of 32 in the loss.
Marcell Dareus
(
Buffalo
):
One of the biggest surprises of the weekend was the Bills 41-7 beat down of the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Dareus, the third overall selection, recorded two tackles in the win.
Javier Arenas
(Kansas City):
Arenas recorded three tackles and two quarterback pressures in a 41-7 loss to Buffalo. Arenas also had three kickoff returns for an average of 18 yards with a long of 22.
DeMeco Ryans
(Houston):
The Texans' defense was impressive in a 34-7 win in Houston even without
Peyton Manning
of the Colts. Ryans recorded six tackles.
Rolando McClain
(Oakland):
The starting middle linebacker for the Raiders helped his team to a 23-20 road win against the Broncos on Monday Night Football. McClain was credited with one tackle and a pass break-up.
Jarret Johnson
(Baltimore):
Johnson didn’t put up eye popping stats, but the Ravens vet did have .5 sack and a quarterback pressure in a impressive 35-7 win against
Pittsburgh
. Johnson has made Sportscenter highlights this week with his hit on
Hines Ward
across the middle after an overthrown pass by
Ben Roethlisberger
. Ravens safety
Ed Reed
had an interception on the play.
Mark Anderson
(New England):
The former Chicago Bear was picked up by the Patriots this year. Anderson recorded a sack late in the game to help secure a 38-24 win for New England against the Dolphins in Miami.
Worth Noting:
Former Alabama quarterback
Brodie Croyle
recently worked out with the
Miami Dolphins
according to Aaron Wilson of FOXSports/Scout.com. Croyle was released from Arizona after joining as a free agent from Kansas City.
