Alabama's Barron Gets SEC Honor
Alabama safety Mark Barron was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Penn State.
Barron, a 6-2, 218-pound senior from Mobile, had an interception, a fumble recovery, and was in on a team-high seven tackles on the road against the 23rd-ranked Lions.
The interception ended a Penn State drive at the Bama nine-yard line in the third quarter and the fumble recovery stopped the Nittany Lions at the Alabama 35-yard line.
The Alabama defense held Penn State to 251 total yards on 69 offensive plays and forced three turnovers.
Barron leads a secondary that ranks third in the NCAA in pass efficiency defense.
Barron's pick was the 11th of his career, which is 11th all-time at Alabama.
Also receiving mention for his play was senior Alabama center William Vlachos, who had the highest grade among offensive linemen. The Tide offensive line did not allow a sack or have a penalty against Penn State.
This week Alabama hosts North Texas. Kickoff Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium is at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Fox Sports will televise the game.
