Recruiting: Clay-Chalkville vs. Oxford

Jerry Hood

The undefeated Clay-Chalkville Cougars will take on the undefeated Oxford Yellowjackets at home Friday. Clay-Chalkville quarterback Jacob Thomas continues to impress this season, and both programs are packed with talent on both sides of the ball.

"I am very proud of this team at this point in the season," Clay-Chalkville Head Coach Jerry Hood said. "I believe we are handling the rewards of winning appropriately. We are still hungry to improve everyday."

"Oxford is a great team. They are probably the most talented team in the region. I look forward to playing them on Friday."

Clay-Chalkville defeated Hewitt-Trussville last week, 31-15.

"I thought the fast start that we had in the first half set the hole too deep for Trussville to come back to win," Hood said. "They did cut it to nine at one point. I expected a great fight, and we got it. Very proud of both teams."

Oxford is known for several talented athletes who came out a winner last week in overtime against Gadsden City. Clay-Chalkville has a few to also watch Friday night.

"Cortez DeShazo, defensive lineman has played really well," Hood explained. "Our quarterback, Jacob Thomas, continues to impress. A newcomer, Brian Clark, has shown great explosiveness at receiver. Our defense is playing well as a unit."

Players to watch for Oxford include Kwon Alexander, Trae Elston, Coty Spurling and Ulric Jones.
