Duron Carter News Seems Optimistic

Last week, Alabama Coach Nick Saban was asked about junior college wide receiver transfer Duron Carter. The coach said he had information, “But I’ll believe it when I see it.” He suggested reading between the lines, and some read good, some read bad.
Let’s hear it for the optimists, one of whom is
Nick Saban
Although one hates to report on the basis of rumor, information from very reliable sources is that
Alabama
has a new student. And in order for
Duron Carter
to play football for Alabama, he first had to be a student at The University. The reportedly happened today, two days before Wednesday’s deadline for registration.
In his regular Monday press briefing, without getting a question about Carter, Saban said, “Although we’re optimistic that it may get done at some point today or tomorrow, we still don’t have verified information that we can say that it’s done.
“He may be at practice today, he may be at practice tomorrow. We don't have the information. He has to be admitted to school, and until that happens I'm not free to comment on what that circumstance or situation is.
“We are optimistic that it's going to get done.
“Even if it is done, we would put a plan into action and try to work him into shape. He probably wouldn't have a lot of opportunity in this game. We would try to use this week to help him implement into what he needs to as a football player to try to get ready for some time down the road. Maybe a week or so from now, he could be a guy that could work his way into something if he performs well.”
This week Alabama plays
Kent State
. The Tide will host the Golden Flashes in Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday with kickoff at 11:21 a.m. and regional television coverage by the SEC Network.
Carter, 6-4, 210, is best known as the son of former pro great Cris Carter. Duron first followed his father to
Ohio State
, where he started as a freshman, and then played last year at Coffeyville Community College.
