Road Game: Hueytown vs. Thomasville
Posted Aug 21, 2011
It was a match-up a lot of fans had been waiting to see in the Champions Challenge presented by al.com. Class 5A Hueytown against 4A Thomasville did not disappoint. A five-star quarterback vs. a four-star linebacker who have already committed to play college football. The higher classification came out on top, 36-27.
, unranked running back from Thomasville, Ala., was the most dominating player of the night. Knight lined up on both sides of the ball and made a name for himself. He rushed 10 times for 162 yards and one touchdown and had one reception for 36 yards and one score. Knight had 10 tackles on defense, one sack for seven yards, and one tackle for a loss of eight yards. Knight jumped on the radar in the spring at the South Showcase Combine in Thomasville where I also named him MVP of the event. That day he measured 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and a 4.44 shuttle.

Florida State commitment

, who sat out a year due to transferring from Homewood, had five receptions for 45 yards and was key in kick-off returns with six for 288 yards. Broadnax is a good looking athlete who was covered most of the night as one of Winston's main go-to guys.
Move the chains
Hueytown was successful on third down conversions going 6-of-12 against Thomasville's three-of-eight. The Golden Gophers had 21 first downs to the Tigers' nine first downs. Winston also guided his team to 69 offensive plays for 454 yards to Thomasville 35 for 257 yards. Time of possession had Hueytown with 10 more minutes (29:15) than the Tigers (18:45). The Golden Gophers were penalized 14 times for 117 yards and Thomasville 11 for 81 yards.
