SHENZHEN, China – JaMychal Green scored a team-high 17 points to lead USA Basketball to a 112-68 win over South Korea on Monday at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.
The University of
Alabama
forward added six rebounds in his 14 minutes of action to help the United States improve to 3-0 with two games remaining in pool play before medal quarterfinals begin.
“I felt pretty good out there,”
JaMychal Green
said of his performance. “We did a good job on defense there in the second half, got stops and pushed it up. We picked it up in the second half.”
That second half saw USA Basketball outscore South Korea by a 57-26 margin in the second half thanks in large part to the team’s depth and halftime adjustments.
“They [South Korea] were quick, so he [head coach Matt Painter] was telling us we had to get back on transition, stop the ball and play help defense,” Green said of the second-half game plan. “I think we adjusted well in the second half when we did that.”
In three games, Green has averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
After three straight days of action, the team will have an day off on Tuesday before continuing play on Wednesday against Finland. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 a.m. CDT.
