SHENZHEN, China – University of Alabama forward JaMychal Green started and scored seven points in USA Basketball’s 102-53 win over Hungary in the second game of pool play at the World University Games.
JaMychal Green
, who will be a senior for
Alabama
basketball this year, played a team-high 19 minutes as head coach Matt Painter was able to use his entire roster in the easy win that saw the team’s active defense help build up a 58-18 halftime advantage. Hungary managed to shoot just 34.5 percent from the field against the U.S. squad.
“We played better as a team and did everything coach wanted us to do,” Green said. “Coach just talked about pressure from every position. Around the court we kept pressuring everywhere. We just got them out of their rhythm and got them uncomfortable so they couldn’t run their offense.”
Green’s offense came via 1-of-3 shooting from the field and a 2-of-2 performance from the free-throw line. He also hauled in seven rebounds.
Vanderbilt
’s
John Jenkins
led the team with 20 points off the bench courtesy of a 6-of-10 performance from three-point range.
The team will return to action Monday as pool play continues against South Korea at 2:30 a.m. CDT.
