Here are some news and notes on top prospects from around the South.
Alabama hosting big camp
The staff did offer Lambert a year ago, but that doesn't mean he could have pulled the trigger. He admits the Alabama coaching staff is wanting to see how much he has progressed since the injury and if he remains a quarterback who could be a part of this year's recruiting class.
Jeremy Liggins, three-star from Oxford-Lafayette, Miss., is another quarterback planning to camp. Liggins is a monster athlete at 6-foot-4, 260-plus pounds. Alabama has been a major contender for Liggins since the beginning of his recruitment. He has the Tide as one of his top four schools.
Chris Black, National 100 receiver from Jacksonville-First Coast, Fla., will return to the Capstone with his family for the second time this summer. He has scheduled his annoucement for August 24 on ESPN with Alabama and Florida State as the finalists.
Trae Elston, three-star cornerback from Oxford, Ala., recently found interest in Alabama after the coaching staff talked with him about playing offense. Elston played receiver his freshman and sophomore year before moving to cornerback as a junior. He wants to play offense on the next level. He will work out at receiver on Sunday.
Eddie Goldman, five-star defensive tackle from Washington D.C.-Edison-Friendship, is headed to Tuscaloosa. This will mark Goldman's second unofficial visit to the Capstone. He has yet to name his five official visits, but Alabama feels like they are a major contender for his signature. He is expected in Tuscaloosa early next week.
Beniquez Brown, four-star outside linebacker from Florence, Ala., returns to Tuscaloosa and participating in the camp on Sunday. Alabama remains at the top of his list.
Alabama is looking to add a few top defenisve backs to this year's recruiting class. Geno Smith and Cyrus Jones have Alabama among their top two schools.
A few other prospects are high on Alabama's board including T.J. Davis, three-star from Tallahassee-Godby, Fla. Davis has the Tide among his top five schools, and UA is one of the schools recruiting him the hardest. He is coached by former Alabama coach Ronnie Cottrell.
Other defensive backs hoping to impress the coaches include Will Redmond, three-star cornerback from Memphis-East, Tenn., and Chris Humes, three-star cornerback from Hoover-Spain Park, Ala. It's possible one of these players might receive an offer after camp. The coaching staff has shown a high interest in both, especially Redmond.
Adolphus Washington, five-star defensive end from Cincinnati-Taft, Ohio, told Scout.com at 'The Opening' he plans to visit Alabama July 18. Expect teammate Dwayne Stanford, four-star wide receiver to also visit if Washington makes the trip. The two have a very high interest in the Tide.
Several 2013 prospects will make their way to Tuscaloosa. One of the best in Alabama is Jamie Major, outside linebacker from Piedmont. Major has been a standout since his freshman year.
Altee Tenpenny, running back from North Little Rock, Ark., was a standout at 'The Opening' last weekend. He has offers from Arkansas and Ole Miss. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back has Alabama No. 1 on his list and hoping to snag an offer this weekend.
