Releford Named Freshman Of Week
There have been several times this year that Trevor Releford has had Alabama performances worthy of an award, and this week he earned one from the conference. Releford, a 6-1, 180-point point guard from Kansas City, Mo., is the SEC Freshman of the Week.
It is Releford's second time this season to earn the honor. He was also selected the week of Dec. 19.
Last week Releford helped the Tide to a pair of league wins as Bama improved its record to an SEC best 7-1. Alabama is 15-7 overall.
Releford averaged 14.5 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in the wins over Mississippi State in Tuscaloosa and Tennessee in Knoxville.
Alabama was able to sweep Mississippi State this year as Releford scored 16 points and had a career high eight assists and four steals. His assists led to 20 points while his steals turned into four points, making the freshman responsible for 40 of Bama's 75 points.
At Tennessee he shot 50 per cent from the field and made a pair of free throws in overtime to seal the Tide's third SEC road win this season. He also had a team high four assists against the Vols.
Releford is averaging 9.9 points and 3.7 assists through the first 22 games of his freshman season and is second among SEC freshmen in assists.
